The Oxnard Planning Commission is recommending that the City Council certify an environmental impact report that is a requirement for the city’s 2030 General Plan.
The council will consider the commission’s recommendation - approved on a 4-2 vote - at its meeting Tuesday.
"The commissioners who voted to approve it agreed essentially that although it is not perfect, there is enough information to make a decision," said Chris Williamson, the city’s principal planner.
"The EIR process is to inform the public and decision-makers of the likely environmental impacts associated with the project to the best of our knowledge and ability, given that we are projecting 20 years into the future," he said.
In a separate vote, the commissioners voted 5-1, with Commissioner Deirdre Frank opposing, to recommend that the City Council adopt the 2030 General Plan. They also recommended that the council consider making some changes to the plan, mainly concerning the Ormond Beach wetlands.
Certifying the EIR is a required step for City Council to discuss the entire 2030 General Plan in time to get it on the June ballot.
